There is real progress here – on procurement, SR&ED, and the discipline of cutting consulting spend. This is the warm-up. Budget 2026 will be the true test of whether this government, with a new majority, can boldly execute the vision needed to build a 21st century innovation economy." — Lucy Hargreaves, Co-Founder and CEO, Build Canada - [A Report on Carney’s First Year in Government](https://www.buildcanada.com/posts/a-report-on-carney-s-first-year-in-government.md): Progress is real, but it's mostly groundwork: 77.7% of commitments are In Progress or Completed. But most of that movement looks like consultations launched, early funds deployed, and line items in departmental plans, not outcomes Canadians can see or feel. Execution has not caught up to rhetoric: Legislation bottlenecks stalled a significant chunk of the agenda. Healthcare and Justice have seen just six completions each, and 5.9 million Canadians still don't have a family doctor. Bill C-15 passing clears some of the logjam, but a full year in, the government still is not implementing at the speed voters urgently called for. The low hanging fruit has been picked. The big-ticket items have yet to break through: The 181 completed items were largely things that needed only a ministerial signature or a tax change. The commitments that would reshape daily life, from housing and healthcare to export credit, are still in progress or not started. Year two needs to look different. - [Budget 2025](https://www.buildcanada.com/posts/budget-2025.md): This budget is a step in the right direction towards growth, but needs boldness and urgency to truly deliver. - [Budget Scorecards](https://www.buildcanada.com/posts/budget-scorecards.md): How does the budget score on Build Canada memo ideas? - [Canadians are Ready to Build](https://www.buildcanada.com/posts/ready-to-build.md): A new survey shows Canadians are ready to build. 70% want to prioritize long-term economic growth over short-term spending ## Builders - [Oliver Bowen: Trains on the Plains](https://www.buildcanada.com/builders/oliver-bowen.md): His legacy, design and leadership are still benefiting Calgarians today - [Chip Wilson: The brand that defined a global movement](https://www.buildcanada.com/builders/chip-wilson.md): I think you just have to believe in your brand, believe in your product and go for it - [Karl Clark: The man who invented the oil sands](https://www.buildcanada.com/builders/karl-clark.md): It is now practical to regard the bitumen content of the bituminous sands as a crude oil and therefore a potential motor fuel. - [The Keevil Dynasty: Building Canada's Mining Powerhouse](https://www.buildcanada.com/builders/the-keevil-dynasty.md): Opportunity can go by in a day –Norman Keevil Sr. - [Jim Pattison: An empire built on honesty and hard work](https://www.buildcanada.com/builders/jim-pattison.md): I haven’t found anything I like doing better than going to work every morning. - [R.C.
